The Exquisite Corpse Two
The Wounded woman disturbed the guillotine with blond hair
I found this sentence to be very difficult, it just sounds so serious, and there aren't any guillotines around Huntsville.
Walking around, this bush reminded me of my sentence in that the very tops were lighter in colour reminding me of the blond hair part of the sentence, and the bush as a whole looks scruffy and disorderly, almost as if it were disturbed.

-People like the way it looks
-Effort was put into it
-Someone made it
-It expresses emotion
To Represent or RE-Present?
-Representation- one thing stands for another
The styles of representation:
-Naturalistic – as in nature
-Realistic - true to life
-Stylized – simplified to emphases important details
-Abstract – highly stylized (may not be recognizable) nonrepresentational art
The Scale of Representation
As a class we categorized different pieces of art by the different styles of representation from naturalism to abstract
Reading Assignment Summary week of September 3rd
The role of art
What do artists do?
-Artists record
-Give tangible form to the unknown
-Give tangible form to feelings
-Offer an innovative way of seeing, a unique visual take on the world
Creativity
Who is creative?
Are artists more creative than other people?
How did they get that way?
Does everyone start out having it?
Can a person become more creative – less?
-Sensitivity – heightened awareness of what one sees, hears, and touches, as well as responsiveness to other people and their feelings
-Flexibility – an ability to adapt to new situations and to see their possibilities; willingness to find innovative relationships
-Originality – uncommon responses to situations and to solving problems
-Playfulness – a sense of humor and the ability to experiment freely
-Productivity – the ability to generate ideas easily and frequently, and to follow through on those ideas
-Fluency – a readiness to allow the free flow of ideas
-Analytical skill – a talent for exploring problems, taking them apart, and finding out how things work
-Organizational skill – ability to put things back together in a coherent order
The role of the observer
How do observers of art educate themselves?
The more one puts into it, the more one gets out of it
Art and beauty
Should all art be beautiful?
Art and the real world
Should art mimic the real world?
-Naturalistic – images that look very similar to the real world
-Illusionistic – Images so natural that they trick us
-Stylized – close to abstract
-Nonrepresentational art – no reference to the natural world of images
-Expression – artist’s unique view of the world

Cardboard Object Progress Report
After two days of working on my nut (still not sure what kind of nut it is) iv'e finally finished creating the four individual parts of the nut (it's a big nut) and now I'm going to have to start connecting the four different parts of the nut, it's turing out much larger than i originally thought it was going to be. Overall the project is working how i wanted it to, the different nut parts are just a little less round than i had hoped but I'm sure I'll be able to fix that problem a little later.

Reading Assignment Summary week of August 27
1.
Gestalt is the entire figure or configuration
There are four characteristics of Gestalt, proximity; which refers to distance between parts, continuance; where the eye is lead to follow a path without interruption, closure; where you are to perceive the design as a whole, similarity; parts similar in size seem to be related.
Visual elements interact through position, direction, and space. Position refers to placement of an element relative to other elements, while direction refers to course of movement. Space can group, emphasize, and separate elements. Figure is an element on picture plane, while the ground is the larger area surrounding it. Depth in a composition can create contrast and help a form communicate its purpose and meaning and perspective is created through the use of lines to depict three-dimensional form on a flat two-dimensional surface. Visual weight is the sum of the forms components and is akin to mass and energy, while visual balance refers to the degree of equilibrium in a composition. A form has symmetry when it is divided all ways and each side is the same.
2.
Natural responses to a work are the direct result of the way work is put together. Form refers to the material delivery portion of a work and a set of visual functions; the means by which one gives substance to an idea. Slippage can change the way someone things about a piece of art, so its important to look at all formal elements of a work. Modernist thinking about art predicated on the assumption that art history is a progressive movement toward greater purity in each medium.
3.
Good design is the best possible visual expression a message or a product.
Conceptual, visual, relational, and practical are all elements of design
Conceptual means point, line plane, and volume. Visual refers to shape, size, color, and texture. Relational is direction, position, space, and gravity. Practical means representation, meaning, and function.
So in turn everything has form.
4.
Composition refers to the arrangement of elements and characteristics within a defined area. Harmony indicates a grouping of related components that make sense together. Simplicity refers to a form with a limited number of simple elements. Rhythm is the movement from one idea to the other.
We tend to lean towards things that are different but still similar.
